I want to learn about BTS Jin's enlistment and military life. Jin, born on December 4th, 1992, enlisted in active duty on December 13th of last year at the Army's 5th Infantry Division recruit training center located in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. BTS Jin's Basic Military Training
On December 12th, the day before his enlistment, Jin shared a photo of himself on Twitter with the caption, "Hello, ARMY. I will be enlisting tomorrow. I'll come back well." Amidst fans' encouragement and support, the eldest member of BTS entered the Army's 5th Infantry Division recruit training center.
Jin received five weeks of basic military training, which included learning the fundamentals of being a soldier such as attitudes and behavior, following rules and orders, combat skills, and physical training. During his training period, Jin underwent various kinds of training. The most notable were chemical warfare and grenade training.
Chemical warfare training is designed to prepare soldiers for chemical, biological, and radiological attacks. Soldiers wear gas masks and chemical protective suits and are exposed to gas in a gas chamber. This training is notoriously difficult and painful. After the chemical warfare training, Jin was seen crying with tears and snot running down his face. However, his fellow soldiers comforted him by giving him water and words of encouragement.
Grenade training teaches soldiers about the structure and usage of grenades and safety measures, and involves throwing real grenades. As this training is dangerous, soldiers must be careful. A photo of Jin in his uniform with a nametag that read "Corporal Trainee" suggests that he played the role of a corporal during his grenade training.
BTS Jin's Role as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO)
After successfully completing his basic military training, BTS Jin was assigned to the Army's 5th Infantry Division recruit training center as a non-commissioned officer (NCO). NCOs are soldiers who train and manage recruits in the recruit training center. They play an important role in teaching recruits about the attitude and behavior of a soldier, rules and orders, combat skills, physical training, and are responsible for the safety and health of the recruits.
Jin is performing his role as an NCO diligently. He trains the recruits, participates in training with his peers, and listens to and solves the problems and concerns of the recruits. Jin shows a strict yet kind and considerate approach to the recruits. He is called "hyung" (older brother) by the recruits and is respected and loved.
BTS Jin's Military Life
BTS Jin fulfills his duty as a soldier without losing his identity as an artist. He has an interest in music and entertainment activities during his military life. Jin sings, composes, checks on BTS's activities and fans' news, listens to other artists' music or watches movies, even while in the military.
Jin finds ways to communicate with his fans during his military life. He posts pictures and updates on his Twitter or Weverse accounts, writes letters on his fan cafe, or reads letters sent by fans. Jin conveys his military life and gratitude to his fans.
Jin keeps in touch with other BTS members during his military life. He talks or texts with his members, receives gifts or food sent by them. Jin shares his military life and encouragement with his members.
Jin is balancing his life as a soldier and as an artist. He is growing and developing through his military life. Jin is expected to be discharged on June 12th, 2024.
